Top 10 Most Read Books in the World? You Decide

This graph was posted by Better World Books on their Facebook page earlier today.  I find it interesting that only one children's book made the list and that was Harry Potter.

What does this say about publishing and book buying?  The Twilight Saga and Anne Frank:  Diary of a Young Girl, which are considered by many to be Young Adult titles also appear as does cross-over series The Lord of the Rings.  Does this indicate that readers under the age of 18 are the consumers of 40% of the top 10?

I don't ever put too much stock in graphics like these, but I do know they travel through social networking sites and are shared by many and are taken at face value.  How many take a look at this and believe that Harry Potter is the 3rd most read book in the world?   I think many people would agree about the top pick, but beyond that, the graph is left to a great deal of interpretation.

Just an aside, I wasn't able to check out the source used for the graph, just thought it was interesting to share.

The caption with it when it appear on Facebook said, "What would be on your Top 10 Book List?" Now that is something worth some consideration!
